Military pension – from what age?

at what age do military personnel retire

On June 14, 2021, the government of the Russian Federation announced an increase in the retirement age for Russians. For men - up to 65 years, and for women - up to 60 years. At the same time, the pension reform did not affect security forces and military personnel. For the military, the period for leaving service is not tied to any specific age, but to length of service. To retire, a military man must serve 20 years.

Law

The law of February 12, 1993 clearly shows which military personnel are entitled to pension payments. It also determines pension payments for firefighters, law enforcement officers and employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. It clearly defines the criteria by which the amount of pension payments is calculated, the conditions for retirement and possible bonuses.

Who is entitled to

Who will be paid depends on the type of pension. There are three in total:

  • For length of service;
  • For disability;
  • Loss of a breadwinner.

Long service is paid to those contract soldiers who have served in the Russian army under a contract for more than twenty years. After this, he can resign and receive pension payments. The minimum retirement age for military personnel is 45 years. At this age, a military man can expect to receive money from the state. At the same time, the command must dismiss him - due to health, reaching the service age limit, and so on. If a person is dismissed from service in disgrace, then there will be no hope of payment.

Disability pensions are received by people who, while serving under a contract, found themselves in a hot spot and were seriously injured there. A serviceman who received a serious illness during combat operations will also be considered disabled.

The amount of pension payments also includes participation in hostilities. The size of the bonus for veterans is determined depending on when the hostilities began.

The survivor's pension for a military serviceman is paid to his dependent family.

Where to contact

According to the decree of the President of the Russian Federation “On approval of the Regulations on military commissariats”, all payments of pensions and compensation are borne by themselves. Military personnel who want to retire must submit an application to the military commissariat at their place of residence or place of registration.

Military pensioners can receive a second pension for length of service

Military pensioners are offered a pension upon reaching length of service or becoming disabled during service in the FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense or other law enforcement agencies. There is a second line, according to which a military pensioner can count on payment. It is awarded if the following conditions are met:

It is important to reach the age limit, which is 60 years for women and 65 years for men. The calculation of working years is carried out in accordance with the transitional annexes of Law No. 400-FZ.

For some categories of pensioners, payments are accrued despite the failure to reach the age limit, if the condition for early appointment has been met. For example, work in harsh conditions or weather/temperature environments is taken into account.

It is mandatory to achieve the required insurance period if the pension is accrued not only through the law enforcement department. In 2020, up to 11 years of “civilian” service will be taken into account as a maximum. This figure will gradually increase until it reaches 15 years in 2024.

If the pensioner has a minimum pension coefficient. For the current year, a coefficient of 18.6 has been adopted, while it will gradually increase until it reaches 30% in 2025.

This is important to know: Benefits for military pensioners after 60 years of age

If a person has reached the minimum pension for long service or has become disabled while working in a law enforcement agency. When determining the insurance and general length of service for a military character, periods of service when he was engaged in other activities, service or work that are already included in the amount of the pension assigned for length of service are not taken into account.

Military pensioners have the right to an insurance pension, which is calculated without calculating fixed payments.

Retirement of military personnel in 2021

According to the laws of the Russian Federation, every military personnel has the right to retire based on length of service or disability. In this part, let's look at what is needed for this.

Minimum Requirements

Several groups of citizens of the Russian Federation have the right to receive a pension early. The most important thing is length of service (work experience). For the military, this is a minimum of twenty years of service. This is openly stated in the law. Moreover, the retirement age for military personnel must be at least 45 years at the time of discharge from the army.

In order for a military man to receive a pension, he must meet one of two conditions:

  1. The citizen served in the army under contract for twenty years at the time of his dismissal from the Russian armed forces;
  2. A citizen can retire early if his age is 45 years and his total work experience has reached 25 years. It is important that half of the length of service must be military service.

Exit order based on length of service

Any citizen of the Russian Federation who has decided to devote himself entirely to serving the Motherland can retire. To do this, the serviceman submits all the necessary documents to the military commissariat. There they are reviewed by a special commission. A person will begin to receive a pension within 10 days from the date of dismissal. In this case, the pension cannot be paid before the allowance.

If a person does not retire on time, then he can still leave and receive pension payments, they will simply register such a person retroactively and pay money for all the past months. The maximum registration period is one year from the moment the right to a pension arises.

The size of the pension will depend on the rank in which the serviceman retires, his length of service, as well as the allowance received at the time of retirement. Along with the allowance, various bonuses are also taken into account.

For those retiring immediately after twenty years of service, it will be fifty percent of their pay. To increase the amount of payments, you can serve a little longer - for each additional year of service, an additional three percent of payments are given. However, the maximum you can receive is eighty-five percent of the allowance.

Exit conditions for disabled people

If a person received a serious injury during military service, due to which he became disabled, then he is entitled to a monthly payment in the amount of 3,088 rubles.

This amount is not the amount of the pension. This is just an extra charge.

Also, disabled people who were injured in military service can count on an increase in their pension payments.

Example

The person received a first group disability and now receives a monthly pension from the state in the amount of 11,500 rubles. If the injury was received during service, then his payments will increase three times - up to 34,500 rubles.

The increase varies depending on the disability group:

  • for group II - 250%;
  • for group III – 175%.

To receive this increase, the disability must have been acquired either during military service or be the result of a long-term illness contracted during service.

To increase, a citizen must undergo a military medical commission. Moreover, he must undergo this examination annually so that the commission can be aware of the changes.

Latest news about military retirement age

In 2021, the government of the Russian Federation adopted a pension reform bill, which all residents of the Russian Federation accepted sharply negatively. Let's see how the pension reform affected the pension payments of military personnel.

Bill

According to the pension reform bill, the retirement age for all civil sector workers is increased. For men it is 65 years old, and for women it is 60. Initially, women were supposed to work until they were 63 years old, but after much criticism it was decided to reduce the age to 60.

For a long time, only changes in pension legislation in the civilian sector were discussed, without saying anything about the military, police and employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As it turned out, there were no plans to change their retirement age. Even after the pension reform was adopted, there were no significant changes in pension legislation in relation to the military.

What is a military pension

Receipt of payments under the “military pension” item is conditional on the presence of full length of service. In addition to direct service in the ranks of the Armed Forces, military experience can be earned in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as working in the criminal investigation department and fire brigades.

Along with having the full length of service required for retirement, payments are assigned to people who were injured in the service, as well as workers of the listed industries who have reached the maximum age specified in the charter as permissible for service.

A military serviceman has the right to receive two types of pension benefits, namely:

  • According to length of service.
  • Social benefits paid by the Pension Fund. To complete it, you must provide information about your length of military service and the length of time you worked at a civilian enterprise.

In 2021, you can apply for benefits for women after 55.5 years, for men - 60.5 years.

There are conditions for granting state benefits ahead of schedule. To do this, experience must include:

  • service in the conditions of the CS or areas equivalent to it;
  • work in hazardous industries

To receive social benefits, legal acts establish a minimum length of service of 10 years of service. Moreover, only the period of official employment, when the employer made regular contributions to the Pension Fund, will be considered such length of service.

Popular queries

As you can understand, many military personnel have many questions about pensions. This part will look at several of the most popular ones.

Can a long-service pensioner continue to serve?

Military personnel can continue to serve even if their service has already exceeded twenty years. Pension payments are assigned only upon dismissal, so unless you decide that you are tired of serving and want to retire to a well-deserved pension, then no one will be able to fire you. The only exception is poor health. If everything is bad with health, then a special commission can decide to dismiss the military man from service and, if his length of service is twenty years, to assign him pension payments.

The same story applies to those military personnel who are 45 years old and have a total work experience of 25 years, half of which is military service.

It is also worth remembering that if you continue to serve after the length of service has reached twenty, then this will only be a plus. If you leave immediately, then pension payments will be half of the amount of allowance along with various bonuses. Moreover, if you continue to serve, this figure will increase by three percent annually. The maximum that can be received is 85 percent of the allowance.

What is the size of the military pension in 2021?

The size of pension payments to military personnel depends on several factors:

  • Military rank at the time of leaving;
  • length of service;
  • The salary received along with all bonuses and allowances.

Length of service mainly determines how large the payments will be. If the length of service is 12 years, then the amount of payments will be 50 percent, not counting the allowance for military rank. The higher the experience, the higher this percentage will be. You can receive a maximum of 85 percent of your allowance.

The type of military service in which the citizen served is also taken into account. Use an online military calculator.

Calculation example

The serviceman served as a sniper, received the rank of lieutenant, and received 50,000 rubles monthly. After serving for twenty years, he decided to leave. For his service, he receives 25,000 rubles. For serving as a sniper, he received a bonus of 12,290 rubles. There is also a bonus for military rank. For a lieutenant it is 11,174 rubles. As a result, the military man will receive 48,464 rubles. This does not include allowances for participation in hostilities and for the maintenance of dependents, as well as an allowance for disability received during service.
